Ranking the Most Dominant Programs in the Team Competition

Longtime readers are familiar with my “points” system where I award 3-points for gold, 2-points for silver, and 1-point for bronze as a metric to rank gymnasts. Well, now I’m using the same system to rank programs and their performance in the team competition. As for the disclaimers:

(A) Only team medals won in women’s artistic gymnastics at the World Championships and Olympics are counted.

(B) Team medals won in the discontinued event of “Team Portable Apparatus” are not counted (1952 & 1956).

(C) The Soviet Union is credited for the gold medal won at the 1992 Olympics while Russia is credited with the gold medal won at the 2021 Olympics.

(D) China is credited with both of its stripped medals at the 1999 World Championships and 2000 Olympics. Ukraine and the United States are also credited with these medals and the data treats both competitions as a tie for bronze.
