Ranking the Most Dominant American Gymnasts

Return to Data Hub

To explain this post: Only individual medals from the World Championships and Olympics are counted. A gold is worth three points, silver is worth two points, and bronze is worth one point. If there is a tie, both gymnasts get the full point total.

At the bottom of the list are links to more data using the same points system.

  1. AA medals should matter more than the two-event gymnast who is overscored every meet. Jade and gymnasts like Alicia benefitted from being “good” on one or two events. There should be an asterisk next to both of their names.

It’s also unfair to give someone credit for making an EF but not giving someone credit for making an event final and then having to pull out because of injury. Shannon was in the 93 Vault finals and the 95, vault, and floor finals but she was injured.

  2. This doesn’t bode well for Suni. If she’s ranked that low then everything she’s doing with inking deals and going to Auburn isn’t ticking the needle.
